1 Corinthians 15:12-19
“And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.” 1 Corinthians 15:14, NKJV
Chinyere was an SSS3 student in a secondary school. She owed the tuition fee for the whole session and had no hope of writing her final examination because the school authority said debtors would not sit for the examination. She told her parents and they prayed together to God for a miracle. The next Monday, the names of school fee defaulters were called on the assembly, Chinyere’s head was already buried in sorrow but her name was not called. Then she thought to herself, “If the fee has not been paid then my name would have been mentioned.” Then she shouted, “My fee has been paid.”
False information and teaching was spreading around in the Corinthian church that there is no resurrection of the dead. Apostle Paul wrote to correct this heresy and argued that “If Christ has not been raised” then our preaching and faith is empty (v. 14); our faith is futile and we are still in sin (v. 17); those who have slept in the Lord have perished (v. 18); and we are of all men the most pitiable (v. 19). What a miserable and hopeless person we will be if Christ has not been raised. Just like Chinyere, shout for joy, for Christ is risen!
